Paul graduated Summa Cum Laude from Johnson and Wales University in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon graduation, he worked in Hot Springs, Virginia where he learned under classically trained European chefs and was exposed to continental cuisine and classical technique. Paul then cooked "California cuisine” working at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach. He honed his skills running four and five-star kitchens at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver and the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs.
In 2005, Paul moved to Vail to be the Chef de Cuisine at Sweet Basil. After only one winter season, with his experience and dedication to his craft, Paul was promoted to Executive Chef. In December 2012 he was instrumental in the creation of Sweet Basil's newest restaurant Mountain Standard and was promoted again to Executive Chef of both restaurants overseeing menu development. December 2013, Paul Anders had his biggest 'promotion' ever by becoming Chef Partner of Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard alongside Kevin Clair and Matt Morgan. Paul 'clears his head' by boarding Vail mountain, when he's not at home with his wife Theresa and daughters Vivian and Harper.
